Save! Save! Save!

It’s a new year and one of your resolutions may be to save money. Whatever the reason you wish to save money, I’ve compiled a list of helpful ways to accomplish your goal.

1.     Save Automatically –
·      Have money automatically saved whenever you get your paycheck. This can be accomplished several different ways.
·      Open a second bank account that doesn’t have a debit card attached. Set your direct deposit at work to deposit a certain amount of your paycheck into the second account.
·      Set an automatic withdrawal from your current checking account that deposits into your savings account.
·      Save when you spend.
·      Use a service like Acorns. Acorns invests your spare change from purchases that you make. It rounds up to an even dollar amount and invests that change into an account that has potential to make you more money.

2.     Save your spare change – If you still spend money the old school way, save your change. Whenever you get home after doing shopping drop whatever change you have into a piggy bank. It all adds up over time.

3.     Make a budget and stick with it.

4.     Cut back on spending –
·      Eliminate unnecessary bills. Get rid of those subscriptions you don’t use.
·      Comparison shop. Check different stores and websites before making a purchase to ensure you’re getting the best deal.
·      Start couponing. There are many websites available online that teach how to coupon for savings.

·      Join company discount programs.

·      Bring your lunch to work instead of eating out. Make your own coffee at home instead of buying that expensive coffee. Don’t eat out often. Limit your trips to your favorite restaurants.

5.     Avoid using your high interest credit cards and payday loans. You can save hundreds to thousands of dollars a year by paying these in full each month and avoiding interest.
